Gartner: 5G to boost supply of smart phones
Gartner expects the 5G technology to boost the supply of various devices, such as personal computers, ultra-books, tablets, and smart phones) 0.9% year-on-year to 2.16 billion pieces in 2020.
A total of 2.15 billion devices were supplied in 2019, which was the smallest number since 2010.
"The market will recover a bit in 2020," Gartner Research Director Ranjit Atwal said. "The higher level of 5G availability will promote the replacement of mobile phones and will spur on global deliveries.
According to Gartner, 12% of mobile phones supplied in 2020 will have 5G microchips. Their share will grow to 43% in 2022.
The market will see further growth in 2023 when 5G phones will account for 50% of the entire mobile phone supply.
