14 / 05 / 2009

IT Spring’2009, the 1st International Congress held within the Svyaz-Expocomm’2009 International Exhibition became a notable event for the Russian Internet community. It is a new project launched at Svyaz-Expocomm’2009 by Fort-Ross, a Russian marketing agency for the IT industry, and Expocentre. The project is intended to demonstrate the potential of IT technology to optimize operational efficiency of a company and reduce costs, which has particular importance in the current economic climate.

The Congress organizers chose today’s most important IT-industry topics to cover within the Open Source Forum Russia’2009 and the Mobile Communications Forum.

The annual Open Source Forum has been held in Moscow for five years and has become a widely known event. Open source-based software, its peculiarities and the economic benefits of its use remain important. And the Russian government’s attention to this issue emphasizes its significance. The list of the Forum delegates included representatives of federal government institutions, the Russian Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications, top management, corporate IT specialists and developers of open source-based software.

This year the key speaker at the Forum was Mr Chris DiBona, Google’s open source chief and an icon in the global open source community. In his speech he described global trends in using open source-based IT solutions. The event provided active networking opportunities for the Forum delegates. The panel discussion focused on the development prospects for open source in business and the public sector of Russia. Also, the Forum comprised a round table on the creation of a national programme platform.

The mobility of business is one of the central issues of discussion in the contemporary business world. The Mobile Communications Forum provided a new look at the market for mobile communications, assessed its development prospects, and demonstrated how mobile IT-solutions could enhance business efficiency.

The Russian Internet community showed a great interest in the IT Spring’2009 International Congress. This inspires confidence that the new project will become integral part of the Svyaz-Expocomm International Exhibition.
