Next generation networks discussed at the ITA 2016 International Forum

12 / 05 / 2016

The 20th International Forum ITA 2016 is held as part of the Sviaz 2016 event program. The Forum was organized by the International Telecommunication Academy. The Forum subject was creation of the Single Russian telecommunications network powered by next generations networks.

The Forum participants were government officials, researchers, leading industry experts, heads of telecommunication operators and IT companies, and ITA academicians.

The Forum attendees discussed the issues devoted to the information and communication infrastructure of the country conforming to the goals and tasks of sustainable development of this country and society  with regard to its basis  - a modern functionally integrated network based on promising solutions and technology of the next generations networks.

President of the International Telecommunication Academy Anastasia Ositis said in her welcome speech that "ITA is an open platform for networking and generating proposals concerning development and regulation in the ITC sector. ITA is an effective tool to spread operators’ knowledge and experience while creating a new global digital communication environment ".

It was said that transformations and sustainable development have required unknown in the history rates of broadband communication development. Last year around 8 exabytes have been produced in the world, i.e. 8 multiplied by 10 in the eighteenth degree bytes. It is a twice as much as in 2012 and this surplus exceeds everything that has been made for the last five thousand years. Growing rates of the traffic surplus set difficult tasks of increase in the network capacity, their organizations and regulation.

Taking into account international decisions, the tasks of creating the Single Russian telecommunications network powered by next generations networks occupy the foregrounds and form the ICT infrastructure of the country.

Among the technological problems, the issues of the traffic high growth rates are crucial since they require a fixed surplus of network capacity. According to the forecasts, in 2015-2018 the annual growth rates of traffic data in mobile communication will make 45%, and in landline - 25%. And there are probably no limits for future IP traffic growth.
